Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Then the disciples, each according to his ability, determined to send relief to the brethren dwelling in Judea. – Acts 11:29

The prophet Agabus predicted a, “…great famine throughout all the world” (v 28). But the disciples didn’t panic. They didn’t run to collect supplies, and hoard all the food and water they could before the famine struck. The disciples’ first reaction to impending lack was not to keep money for themselves; it was to give.

You fight lack with generosity. The way we give determines how we receive:

“Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” – Lk 6:38

When we get good at giving, God will make sure we have plenty of practice receiving!

Prayer:

Father, open up my eyes to the needs all around me. Open up my heart to the people all around me! Make me a generous giver, in Jesus’ name.
