Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Then [Elijah] said to [Ahaziah], “Thus says the Lord: ‘Because you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron, is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of His word? Therefore you shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die.’ ” – 2 Kings 1:16

Ahaziah had already heard from God. Elijah had met Ahaziah’s servants, and given them bad news (v 6): “Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending to inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore you shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die.”

Ahaziah didn’t like the Lord’s word, so he sent for Elijah again. He obsessed over getting a personal word from the prophet, because he thought it would change things for him. But when Elijah arrived, he delivered the same message to Ahaziah face to face, that he had already delivered through a messenger!

Are you waiting for a word from the Lord? He’s already given you His Word. He’s already spoken to you in prayer! You don’t need to obsess over getting a personal word from a prophet, or another anointed individual in your life. When God has a message for you, He will get it to you!

Seek God for yourself. Don’t rely on someone else to hear from Him on your behalf! Jesus purchased access to the throne of God with His blood. Are you going in?

Prayer:

Father, thank You for speaking to me. Remind me that whenever I need to hear from You, I can come right to You! I don’t need anybody else to be a go-between!
