But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.” – Matt 12:25
Jesus spent His entire earthly ministry healing the sick, casting out demons, cleansing lepers, and raising the dead. We see His will when it comes to healing in Scripture: “I am willing; be cleansed” (Matt 8:3).
Yet despite the evidence that God heals, there are still Christians who believe God inflicts sickness and disease on His children to teach us a lesson. This could never be the case. Jesus reminded the Pharisees – and He reminds us today – that a house divided against itself will not stand. God would not seek to teach us a lesson by undoing the very things Jesus came to earth to accomplish. God will never put something in us that Jesus would have cast out.
Sickness does not come from God; sickness comes from Satan. We must never say the truly silly thing that we are all tempted to say when suffering arises: God has given this to me. He has not! Every good and perfect gift comes from above (Jas 1:17). Sickness is neither good, nor perfect, and therefore does not come from God.
God is the God Who Heals (Ex 15:26). We must never let what we don’t understand interfere with what we know to be true: God is good, all the time!
Prayer:
Father, thank You that You promise to heal all Your children, all the time! My healing might not always come right away, and the answer to my prayers might not take the shape I expect. But I know You are the God Who Heals, regardless of what my eyes see in front of me!
