Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Now the sons born to Keturah, Abraham’s concubine, were Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. – 1 Chron 1:32

Just because Abraham had a concubine, does not mean that polygamy is God’s will. Abraham was imperfect. He made mistakes! God’s will is for every man to have either no wife, or one wife (Gen 2:24); but Abraham couldn’t get it right. He messed up, and fell into the cultural practices of his day. He took wives and concubines, against God’s will.

But God still called him righteous. Abraham was righteous by faith (Gen 15:6), not by works. You will mess up, just as Abraham did. But when you confess your sins and call on the name of the Lord (Rom 10:13), you shall be saved!

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. – Eph 2:8-9

Prayer:

Father, thank You that I don’t need to be perfect to be righteous! Thank You that Jesus purchased my right standing with You, two thousand years ago, on the Cross!
