Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

The battle became fierce against Saul. The archers hit him, and he was wounded by the archers. Then Saul said to his armorbearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised men come and abuse me.” But his armorbearer would not, for he was greatly afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword and fell on it. – 1 Chron 10:3-4

When we read this passage, we simplify it and say that Saul was killed by his enemies. But that is too simplistic. Saul was left vulnerable in battle because of his disobedience, and the enemy found the chink in his armor. Saul was wounded by the enemy’s arrows. Ultimately, however, Saul killed himself: he, “…took a sword and fell on it” (1 Chron 10:4).

Only you can sabotage your destiny. The enemy’s plan is to weaken you to the point where you sacrifice your destiny through disobedience. Satan does not have the power to kill you. His only goal is to weaken you to the point where you sacrifice your own life!

Stay strong. Stay zealous for the things of God. The fiery darts of the enemy only got through to Saul because he took his eyes off his Savior. But if you seek after Jesus with your whole heart, the enemy cannot make you fall.

“Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.” – Jn 10:17-18

Prayer:

Father, help me not to fear my enemies! I know that I am weak, but You are strong. I ask You to fill me with Your strength to resist every enemy, in Jesus’ name!
