Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Then the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, “You shall not come in here!” Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion (that is, the City of David). – 1 Chron 11:5

David made a living defying his enemies. As a young man, David defied Goliath:

This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. – 1 Sam 17:46

And as king, David defied entire opposing armies! The stronghold of Jebus was the enemy’s most fortified position. The enemy said David was not allowed; but he took the city for God all the same.

God will give us victory over our enemies when we believe in His word, no matter what. Don’t be scared to attack the stronghold: those goals in your life that seem unattainable and fraught with resistance. David made a decision to value the promises of God over the threats of man. His life was a testimony to the power of faith-filled, courageous trust in God.

Prayer:

Father, I want to be like David! I want to rise up in the face of my enemies and take possession of Your promises. I value what You say over what anyone else says or thinks, in Jesus’ name!
