Commentary from Pastor Mike White:
…and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God. – Rom 2:29
God is not interested in behavior modification; He is interested in heart transformation. Trying to “be better” or “do better” will never do you any good. You cannot change yourself from the outside in. You cannot earn your way into God’s favor with good behavior. Only God can change you: from the inside out.
Transformation starts when you know you are pleasing to God! When you understand your identity in Jesus Christ, everything you think, say, and do will be a reflection of who you are in Him.
God loves you infinitely. He sacrificed Himself so you could be forgiven. Allow the truth of the Gospel to enter into your heart. Allow yourself to be overwhelmed by God’s love through Jesus Christ! As you do, every cell in your body will be transformed into God’s likeness, and you will become more like Him!
Prayer:
Father, I know the only way to become more like You is to receive Your love! Help me to stop trying so hard to please You. I want to know – deep down, in the marrow of my bones – that I am loved and accepted! I receive Your love, in Jesus’ name!
