CityLight Pastor Commentary:

“Then King David said to Ornan, ‘No, but I will surely buy it for the full price, for I will not take what is yours for the Lord, nor offer burnt offerings with that which costs me nothing’” (1 Chron 21:24). David recognized an important principle: our offerings to God should not be free. They should cost us something. Ornan offered up his personal property willingly, but David refused to accept it without a price. If an offering costs us nothing, is it really an offering?

Prayer:

Father, I know my offering will not move You unless it moves me. I know it will not be significant to You unless it’s significant to me. I want to give with my whole heart: everything I have is yours!
