Commentary from Pastor Mike White:

Only may the Lord give you wisdom and understanding, and give you charge concerning Israel, that you may keep the law of the Lord your God. – 1 Chron 22:12

Solomon’s prayer for wisdom gets a lot of attention. In 2 Chron 1:10, after God has invited Solomon to ask for whatever he wants, Solomon responds: “Now give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people.” He could have asked for anything! Yet he asked for wisdom and understanding; and in response, God gave him not only what he asked, but also riches and wealth beyond measure.

Solomon asked well. But Solomon was only able to ask well because the foundation had already been laid through prayer. David prayed for Solomon. He asked God to give his son wisdom and understanding: the ability to judge the people of Israel and keep God’s Law. Because David prayed for Solomon, he was able to step into God’s calling for his life!

Your prayers matter. Pray for our children. Pray that the generations who follow us would ask for the right things. When we lay the foundation through prayer, they can step into God’s destiny for His people!

Prayer:

Father, I pray that You would strengthen future generations. Embolden them to hold fast to Your word, and contend for the things You want them to have. I declare the generations of Christians who follow us will be free from the snares of the enemy, and able to make wise choices! I pray their hearts would be set on fire for You, in Jesus’ name!
