Moreover David and the captains of the army separated for the service some of the sons of Asaph, of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, stringed instruments, and cymbals. – 1 Chron 25:1
When we worship God with song, we are doing more than just making music. We are prophesying. After David brought the Ark of the Covenant into Jerusalem, he instructed musicians to play around the clock, to the glory of God. Scripture makes clear that as they played, they prophesied (v 1, above).
Prophecy is the Hebrew word naba (Strong’s #5012). This is the same Hebrew word used when God’s Old Testament prophets relayed a message on His behalf. In other words, the musical message these musicians carried was just as valuable as a verbal message a prophet might convey. The men with instruments were doing so much more than making a joyful noise; they were reflecting what was going on in Heaven, here on earth!
When we make ourselves available to worship, God will fill us with prophecy! Do not underestimate the importance of worship. When we worship, God speaks: to us, and through us.
Prayer:
Father, help me to place the highest premium possible on worship. I know that when I lift up my praise to You, I am actually prophesying! Thank You for filling me with heavenly sound, so I can reflect it back to You!
