Commentary from Pastor Mike White:

For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. – Rom 7:15

Do you ever have trouble breaking bad habits? Do you finally shake yourself free from an uncomfortable situation, only to find yourself right back in a similar situation a few weeks later?

That is the cycle of the flesh: we know what we want to do, but we simply cannot do it. We end up trapped in bad situations, without being able to understand how we ever got there. Knowing what we should do, and actually being able to do it, are two different things! So how do we break the cycle?

Rely on God’s strength; not your own. Ask His Holy Spirit for help. Our spirit is willing, but our flesh is weak. We can only be who God wants us to become when we rely on His Holy Spirit for help!

If you try and build a life for yourself on your own, you will have to maintain it on your own. But when God takes you where He wants you to be, the progress is His – not yours – to maintain!

Prayer:

Father, strengthen me in Jesus’ name! I know I am weak without You; but in You I am strong! I put all my trust in You; help me to rely on You when I need You most.
