CityLight Pastor Commentary:

“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit “(Rom 8:1). Paul is explaining something very important to the church at Rome: our flesh and our minds will always be at odds. Even if we want to perform God’s will and walk in obedience to His calling, our bodies (flesh) will make it close to impossible. The only way we can live how God wants us to live is with the Holy Spirit’s help! As Christians, we should never try to live life well on our own: we must always ask the Holy Spirit for help! When we rely on Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, and allow His Holy Spirit to guide us, we are no longer subject to condemnation. Even when we fall short, or when we stumble – the Cross is enough to overcome all sin!

Prayer:

Father, thank You that the Cross relieves me from all condemnation! Thank You that the Cross means I can have a restored relationship with You. Thank You that when Your Son Jesus Christ ascended to Heaven, He sent Your Holy Spirit to empower us – His disciples – to live a Spirit-filled life!
