Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Our fathers trusted in You;
They trusted, and You delivered them.
They cried to You, and were delivered;
They trusted in You, and were not ashamed. – Ps. 22:4-5

We are in truly unprecedented times. A pandemic continues to work its way across the globe in what is now the sixteenth month of lockdown restrictions in many countries. The vaccine in which many of us put our trust (instead of trusting God!) is not working the way it was supposed to. Inflation is reaching a boiling point, with citizens in many countries unable to afford daily staples like food and medicine, much less a permanent place to live. So where do we go in times like these? To whom do we turn?

When God’s people trusted in God, He delivered them. Trust was the sole simple requirement! So why are we waiting so long and exhausting all our peripheral options before we try the simple solution – trusting God! – that worked for our ancestors?[1]

When our fathers trusted in God, He brought them out of captivity in Egypt:

So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites. – Ex. 3:8

When our fathers trusted in God, He brought them through a sea on dry ground!

So the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. – Ex. 14:22

When our fathers trust in God, He gave them a Messiah who would take away the sin of the world:

And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. – Lk. 1:31

God has never failed His people who trust in Him! So stop trusting anyone or anything else, and start trusting the only God who can save.

Prayer:

Father, I choose to trust You! Thank You for the many ways in which You demonstrate Your faithfulness to me. I repent of ever putting my trust in anyone or anything else! I am so grateful for Your constant goodness and kindness, in Jesus’ name.

[1] Of course you may not be from Israel. But if you believe in Jesus, you are “heirs according to the promise” of Abraham (Gal. 3:29), which makes you his bloodline and his seed: Jewish by faith!
