Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

And when He had come to His own country, He taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, “Where did this Man get this wisdom and these mighty works?” – Matt 13:54

When Jesus returned home, He wasn’t the same kid He used to be; He was the Son of God. People expected Him to act and talk the same way He always had; but He taught with such authority and power that people were astonished: struck with amazement and wonder.

The Holy Spirit will change you. He will give you a new heart (Ezek 36:26). When you give your life to Him, you are a new creation:

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. – 2 Cor 5:17

You now have the mind of Christ (1 Cor 2:16). You can think like Him, and pray like Him, because you are filled with His Holy Spirit.

Not everyone will understand. Some of your old friends might be offended (v 57), and that’s just fine. You are who God says you are; not who everyone else expects you to be!

Prayer:

Father, I am a new creation in Jesus’ name! Thank You for permanently changing me – from the inside out – by the power of Your Holy Spirit. I declare that I will never be the same!
