Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
For the Lord brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel, for he had encouraged moral decline in Judah and had been continually unfaithful to the Lord. – 2 Chron 28:19

Judah had expanded under many generations of victory. Ahaz inherited a large, prosperous kingdom! But Ahaz did not follow God. He cared more for power that he did for praise. His character could not support the blessings he inherited! Before long, the kingdom fell apart.

Character supports blessing. Blessings crumble if a foundation of character is not in place. Ahaz inherited good things! But his character could not support what God had given him to carry. Don’t ask to be blessed until you have the character in place to support the blessing!

Prayer:

Father, help me to do the hard work of building godly character. I know I need a Biblical foundation that will support the weight of what You want me to carry! Help me to be wise, and to put You first, in Jesus’ name!
