Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Then the king said to the wise men who understood the times (for this was the king’s manner toward all who knew law and justice…), “What shall we do to Queen Vashti?” – Esther 1:13,15

The King of Persia had been offended in front of all his subjects, and he did not know how to respond. So, he asked for help! He turned to his trusted advisors, and sought their counsel. Because he responded with wisdom, disaster was averted.

Wise leaders are not afraid to seek the counsel of others. Pride avoids seeking the opinion of others; humility actively seeks others out. God will surround you with wise counselors as you pray for them. Use them!

Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety. – Prov 11:14

Prayer:

Father, I pray You would surround me with wise counselors: men and women on whom I can consistently rely for sound, unbiased advice. Give me the humility to seek the opinion of others, in Jesus’ name!
