Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

So the king took off his signet ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it to Mordecai; and Esther appointed Mordecai over the house of Haman. – Esther 8:2

For years, Mordecai worked hard with no reward. He took in Esther as his own daughter, raised her up to be a queen, and relentlessly supported her. When he learned the Jewish people were threatened, he contended for their survival. When Esther needed intercession and prayer, he had her back! All the while, he expected no reward: he simply wanted the best for the people around him.

Yet at the end of his life, God rewarded him anyway. He was given the king’s signet ring. His adversary – the man who had publicly persecuted him for years – was destroyed; and Mordecai was installed as owner over all his possessions. Because Mordecai never sought a reward, but only to serve God, God gave him a reward for his service.

God’s reward can take time to arrive. His plans can take time to unfold. But in the end, it will be worth the wait.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your goodness! I will serve You with my whole heart, with no strings attached. Help me to love You more and more every day, in Jesus’ name!
