Commentary from Pastor Mike White:

Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. – Gal 3:13-14

Jesus Christ took on every curse you and I could ever bear. He took them and carried them to the Cross. And that is where He left them. In fact, Jesus became a curse, and was nailed to the Cross, so that when He died, all the curses that should apply to us would die with Him. He became a curse so that we might be blessed.

He became sin, “…that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Cor 5:21). He not only bore the weight of our sins; He became sin itself, and was nailed to the Cross, so that when He died, all the punishment we deserve for our sins would die with Him.

Jesus took our sin, sickness and death – the curses we all face as human beings – and nailed them to the Cross. In exchange, He gave us His Spirit. He took us out of the darkness, and into the light: out of death, and into eternal life. His Holy Spirit lives in us as a guarantee that we are recipients of every good and perfect thing from Heaven above.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for divine substitution! Thank You that all my sins are accounted for in the Atonement. There is no sin so big that it can overshadow the finished work of the Cross. Thank You that You are a God of finished works!
