Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus… – Eph. 2:4-6

Look at the precise moment God chose to save you and make you alive in Christ: when you were “dead in trespasses.” God didn’t wait until you were perfect to save you! He didn’t even wait for you to turn the corner and start to get better. He waded waist-deep into your mess and brought you out. He didn’t save you because you deserved it! He saved you because He loves you.

Romans 5:8 articulates it this way:

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. – Rom. 5:8

Jesus died for you while you were still a sinner! And that is encouraging, because it means you don’t have to get your act together before you come to God! Call out to Him, right where you are, and He will meet you in that place. He will come into your life and do, in a moment, what you could never do on your own.

“And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” – Acts 2:21

Prayer:

Father, thank You for saving me from the depths of my sin! I was totally lost; but You found me. You refused to leave me where I was! Instead, You brought me to You. You saved me from my sin, and I am forever grateful, in Jesus’ name!
