Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness, and hold such men in esteem; because for the work of Christ he came close to death, not regarding his life… – Phil 2:29-30

Paul held Epaphroditus “in esteem.” He respected him. He honored him. He loved him! Why? Because “for the work of Christ he came close to death, not regarding his life…” This is the ultimate test: do you love Jesus so much that you would give your life for Him?

We live in a day and age where we esteem (i.e. respect and admire) people who build up their lives. But God honors those who give up their lives. Truly loving Jesus doesn’t mean God gives you a good life; it means you give God your whole life.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the Cross. You gave Your only Son; and in response, I give You my life, in Jesus’ name!
