Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say: ‘Return, backsliding Israel,’ says the Lord; ‘I will not cause My anger to fall on you. For I am merciful,’ says the Lord; ‘I will not remain angry forever. Only acknowledge your iniquity…’” – Jer 3:12-13a

God is merciful. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been gone from Him. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done in your absence. God’s cry to you is always the same: return to Me. He loves you, and He misses you!

The only prerequisite to returning to God is this: acknowledge your iniquity. All you have to do to be saved is admit your need for a Savior! All you have to do to return to God and receive His eternal mercy is own up to your mistakes! You are not perfect: you never have been, and you never will be. But Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life for you!

Return to God. Admit you’re not perfect. And then receive the perfect substitute: Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who died on the Cross for your sin.

Prayer:

Father, I admit I’m not perfect. Thank You that as I admit that, grace washes over me. Your mercy overpowers me. I have been made perfect in You!
