Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Righteous are You, O Lord, when I plead with You; Yet let me talk with You about Your judgments. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are those happy who deal so treacherously? – Jer 12:1

Jeremiah was not challenging God. He was seeking understanding. He questioned God; but his questioning was framed by the statement, “Righteous are You, Lord.” His inquiry was preceded and followed by humility that conveyed an understanding that God knows best.

It’s ok to have questions for God! Yet they should always be asked with respect. You get to “come boldly to the throne of grace” (Heb 4:16)! Yet boldness and humility should intersect as you stand before God in prayer. And if you’re ever not sure if a question you’re about to ask – or a request you’re about to make – is too bold, don’t panic. You are filled with the Holy Spirit, who will teach you how to pray.

Prayer:

Father, thank You that I get to come to You in prayer! I know You are my friend; but I also understand that You’re my Father. I pray our intimacy would never give way to informality, in Jesus’ name.
