Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Thus says the Lord: “Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and there speak this word, and say, ‘Hear the word of the Lord, O king of Judah, you who sit on the throne of David, you and your servants and your people who enter these gates!’” – Jer 22:1-2

Just because the king was on the throne, doesn’t mean he heard God’s word! God sent Jeremiah to speak to the king of Judah, because the king of Judah wasn’t listening to God. What a travesty to have God put you in a position of authority, only to respond by suspending – instead of increasing – your reliance on Him!

The temptation we experience in positions of authority is this: the higher we go, the less we ask God for help. The opposite should be true! The more people God calls you to lead, the higher the stakes of every decision you make. One of the most valuable characteristics of an effective leader is persistent humility that insists on seeking the word of the Lord!

Don’t make God come looking for you. Seek Him first! And He will tell you everything you need to know.

Prayer:

Father, I need Your word! I need Your written Word. I need Your spoken word. I pray that the more You promote me, the more – not less – I would rely on You, in Jesus’ name!
