Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, when He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe, because our testimony among you was believed. – 2 Thess 1:9-10

I always endeavor to stick to positive and uplifting subjects in the Daily Word. Most days we are hard enough on ourselves, and we don’t need pastors and religious leaders adding to the weight of the conviction we already feel for not being “good enough.”

However, we must take a moment to stop and digest the scene presented in these verses. At the end of time, Jesus will descend from Heaven with His mighty angels. He will “punish” everyone who does not know Him with “everlasting destruction” (v 9). With “flaming fire” He will “take vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ” (v 8).

This is the truth: those who do not know Jesus will face eternal fire. Is there anyone in your life facing that possibility? Is there anyone you call friend who is in danger of missing out on salvation? Is there anyone in your family who needs an invitation to receive Jesus as Lord? Isn’t it worth getting over your fear of presenting the gospel to spare them from eternal destruction?

Reply to this e-mail and let me know the names of several people in your family who aren’t saved. I want to pray for them. Don’t do it alone. Get help! God’s will is that “none would perish” (2 Pet 3:9); but that won’t happen without our prayers!

Prayer:

Lord, light a fire under me to get out and preach the gospel. I know people who need to know Jesus; and I will stop at nothing to make sure they get the message!
