Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon our beloved friend and fellow laborer, to the beloved Apphia, Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the church in your house… – Phil. 1:1-2

The church was in their house. This was a close-knit group of Jesus followers who met as one family. They didn’t have a building to go to! And they didn’t need one. Because they had the Word, and they had each other.

Don’t let “I don’t have a good church near me” serve as an excuse to live outside of Christian community. Find some like-minded believers with a heart to worship Jesus and a passion to genuinely study His word (to let God’s word define their life, and not their life to define God’s word) and get together! The enemy loves picking off vulnerable Christians. And just as a lion picking off members of a herd goes for the isolated, Satan will come after you when you are not part of a body of believers.

Find a church and get involved. And watch how the power of God moves through your life like never before!

Prayer:

Lord, help me to find a church! I want to be engaged in intimate and powerful community. I pray You would send people to me who will become like family; and I pray that You would make me that type of person to someone else, in Jesus’ name!
