Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“For these things I weep; my eye, my eye overflows with water; because the comforter, who should restore my life, is far from me.” – Lam 1:16

The author of Lamentations – traditionally thought to be the prophet Jeremiah – is crying out in distress! He is weeping, because there is no one to comfort him. Jerusalem was in ruins, and there was no one to restore God’s people to life.

Distance from God leads to sorrow; but proximity to God leads to abundant joy! God’s people were lost – without comfort – because they had distanced themselves from God! But you and I never have to experience what they went through. We have the Comforter – God’s Holy Spirit – inside of us! He will never leave us or forsake us.  We don’t have to weep, because Jesus came to turn our sorrow into joy!

Stay close to God. He will not only restore the life you once had; He will bless you with a better life than you could ever imagine!

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. – Jas 4:8

Prayer:

Father, keep me close to You. Don’t let me drift from Your presence! You are my Comforter. Restore my life, in Jesus’ name!
