Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
The kings of the earth, and all inhabitants of the world, would not have believed that the adversary and the enemy could enter the gates of Jerusalem–Because of the sins of her prophets and the iniquities of her priests, who shed in her midst the blood of the just. – Lam 4:12-13

Sin gives the enemy an entry point. If you sin, God will forgive you! He has already separated you from your sin, as far as the East is from the West (Ps 103:12)! But when you sin, you open yourself up to the work of the enemy. You expose yourself to consequences for your earthly decisions.

God is good; Satan is bad. It really is that simple. Close the door to the enemy by fleeing from sin, and running to God. When you draw near to God, He will draw near to you (Jas 4:8)! And when you are in His care, you will have nothing to fear.

Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling… – Ps 91:9-10

Prayer:

Father, I renounce all sin in my life in Jesus’ name. I lay down my pride. Help me to distance myself from the desires of my flesh! I want to chase after You: nothing, and no one else, in Jesus’ name.
