Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, on the fifth day of the month, as I was among the captives by the River Chebar, that the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God. – Ezek 1:1

This was a major revelation. The “heavens were opened” for Ezekiel, and he “saw visions of God.” That doesn’t happen every day!

But notice where Ezekiel was when he had this monumental experience with God: “among the captives.” Ezekiel was among the broken. He was in the midst of an entire people group who needed healing! He didn’t try to avoid the pain of the people around him; he confronted it head on. Because what those “captives” needed most was a rhema word from God that would cause them to hope in freedom.

Do you want to hear from God? Get “among the captives.” Find people who need help! Spend time with the downcast and the marginalized. Get around people who desperately need to hear from God, and He will make sure He gets the message through you.

Prayer:

Father, send me. I want to go among the captives. I want to bring the word of the Lord to people who desperately need to hear His voice! I am willing. Send me.
