Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Now beyond all contradiction the lesser is blessed by the better. Here mortal men receive tithes, but there he receives them, of whom it is witnessed that he lives.– Heb 7:7-8

Melchizedek received the tithe, but Abraham received the blessing. Even though Abraham was the giver of money, he was the party that benefited most from this transaction.

When we honor God with our tithes, we are not just donating to charity. When we give to the church, Jesus – the Most High Priest of the order of Melchizedek (Heb 7:17) – receives our offering in Heaven. When we give money, we gain a blessing.

The tithe is for our benefit. The tithe is the pathway to financial blessing. When we tithe, we prove that we are willing to give freely of everything we have revived: to honor God with what is rightfully His in the first place! When we give freely, we will be blessed.

Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it. – Mal 3:10

Prayer:

Father, thank You that You are faithful! I know I cannot out-give You, no matter how hard I try. Help me to give generously. As I honor You with my tithe, I know I will be blessed!
