Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And it came to pass in the twenty-seventh year, in the first month, on the first day of the month, that the word of the Lord came to me… – Ezek 29:17

Ezekiel constantly recorded not only what God said, but also when God said it. There was a reason for this. Ezekiel wanted to be able to look back and compare his prophecy with historical events. In other words, he wanted proof that what he “heard from God” actually happened!

Ezekiel is giving us a key to building relationship with God. Takes notes when and where you hear from God. Then, test what you “heard.” When you think you hear something from God, does it happen? Can you look back at the day and time you heard it and judge whether or not what you heard was really from Him?

If what you think you “hear” in prayer never actually comes to pass, maybe it’s time to revise your methods of hearing from God. But if you see God fulfill His word, you can have confidence that you’re hearing from Him!

Prayer:

Father, help me to test my hearing! Make me diligent in recording – in detail – what You speak to me. I believe I am hearing from You; and I am going to prove it, in Jesus’ name!
