Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple. – Ps 27:4

King David had it all. He had risen from rags to riches: though he was born a shepherd boy, God anointed him to become king over Israel (1 Sam 16:13). He was a seasoned warrior who was immensely successful on the battlefield (David and Goliath; 1 Sam 17:49). David was tremendously wealthy, with more silver and gold than you or I could ever dream of having!

And what did David learn through it all? The only thing that matters is the presence of God.

After all his life experience, David said he only desired “one thing” from the Lord. He didn’t ask God for more success, more victory, or more money; instead, he asked to dwell in God’s house, all the days of his life. Here is a man who had everything, telling us the presence of God is all that matters.

Learn from David’s example. If you have the world but lack God’s presence, you have nothing; but once you have God’s presence, you have everything you will ever need.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your presence. Your presence is all I will seek, because I know deep down that nothing else matters! Help me to let everything else go, and grab hold of You like never before, in Jesus’ name!
