Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“ If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 Jn 1:9). John makes crystal clear that all of us have a choice: we can acknowledge our sin, or we can run from it. If we run from it, he calls us liars. God’s word says that all men are sinners (Rom 3:23), so contending that we have no sin is on par with calling God a liar. If we acknowledge our sin, however, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins immediately. At the moment we call on the name Jesus Christ, He cleans us and clothes us in the righteousness only He deserves!
Prayer:
Father, thank You or salvation. Help me to honestly identify and confess my sins so that they can be forgiven. Cleanse me from all unrighteousness in Jesus’ name!
