Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. – 1 John 2:1
God didn’t have to write His Word down. But He did. He chose anointed voices who were inspired by the Holy Spirit to record Scripture. Why? “So that you may not sin.” One of the purposes of God’s written Word is so that you may not sin!
Are you stuck in sin? The solution, then, is not to try and fight off your sin. It is to fall in love with the Word of God. Sin – that behavioral pattern you just can’t seem to change – is the problem. But God’s Word is the solution. Don’t be problem focused! Put your eyes on the solution instead. And as you fall in love with Jesus like never before through His Word, you will lose all desire to sin.
You don’t change the things you want to change by trying to change them. You change them by falling in love with Jesus and forsaking all else.
Prayer:
Father, I pray that You would birth in me a love for Your Word! I want to know everything You have to say, even if it’s tough for me to hear! I want to love Your Word like never before, in Jesus’ name.
