Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
So Moses heeded the voice of his father-in-law and did all that he had said. – Ex 18:24

Moses was a powerful man. God spoke with him directly! When Moses prayed, miracles happened. He was the leader of the nation of Israel! But Moses was never too proud to listen to advice.

Jethro spoke; and Moses listened. Not only did he listen; he also, “…heeded the voice of his father-in-law and did all that he had said.” Moses could have responded to Jethro differently. He could have rejected his advice! He could have reminded Jethro that he knew what he was doing. After all, he had just gone head-to-head with Pharaoh and the entire nation of Egypt, and won! But Moses laid down his pride. He listened to Jethro; and the remedy Jethro suggested was exactly what Moses needed.

Being a good leader means never being too proud to listen to advice. The more successful you are, the more counsel you will need, because the stakes are higher than ever! God will surround you with people who will speak wisdom into your life. When they speak, will you listen?

Prayer:

Father, make me like Moses. I want to listen to other people, instead of assuming I know best. Thank You for surrounding me with people who give sound advice. Help me to listen to them, in Jesus’ name!
