Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying: ‘You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created.’ ” – Rev. 4:9-11

John saw heaven. He saw the Lord sitting on His throne. And here was the scene around Him, simplified for the sake of brevity: everyone worshipped. There was no one seated during worship. The “four living creatures…did not rest day or night” but sang out “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!” (v 8). The twenty-four elders seated around Jesus fell down before Him (v 10). They could not remain seated! They took their crowns – the heavenly reward they had earned for a lifetime of following Jesus on earth – and gladly cast it at Jesus’ feet.

God has given you a specific mission in your life. It may feel overwhelming! It may seem impossible. But worship will get you there. Take a cue from heaven. The only thing you will do for all eternity is worship Jesus and fall at His feet. You will gladly lay every accomplishment in front of His throne, endlessly grateful for His presence. So why not start now? Why not make today a day of worship? Whatever you are facing, and whatever you are striving for: lay it at His feet and worship.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for reminding me of the power of worship! I have much to accomplish that You have given me to do. But my first priority can always and only be one pursuit: worship. I will lay my life at Your feet. My life belongs to You! Help me to worship You with all that I have, and all that I am, in Jesus’ name.
