Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Be silent in the presence of the Lord God; for the day of the Lord is at hand, for the Lord has prepared a sacrifice; He has invited His guests. – Zeph 1:7

How often do you listen in prayer? Sometimes we go to pray, and we just start talking. We tell God what we want. We tell Him what we need! But what if instead of talking, we spent most of our time in prayer listening? What if instead of telling Him what we want, we allowed Him to tell us what we need?

Try being silent in the presence of God. Jesus’ death on the Cross means you get to, “come boldly to the throne of grace” (Heb 4:16). God has invited you into His presence because there are things He wants to tell you! But it’s impossible to receive the instruction we need if we’re always talking and never listening.

God will speak; but we have to make space to listen.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for inviting me into Your presence. Thank You that I get to come to You in prayer with an open heart, knowing that You will receive me. Help me to listen before talking, in Jesus’ name!
