Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

In the second year of King Darius, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest… – Hag 1:1

God needed to get a message to Judah’s leaders. But in this instance, instead of speaking to them directly, He spoke through someone else. The word of the Lord didn’t come to Zerubbabel or Joshua in prayer; it came through Haggai.

I believe God speaks to all His children; but sometimes, God chooses to speak through other people. Do you need to hear God’s voice for a major decision? Do you need to hear His voice to encourage you in the midst of a tough time? Get help. Ask someone else to pray with you. God may use that person to get you what He wants you to have.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the gift of other people. Thank You for faithful friends! Surround me with people who will contend for a word from the Lord with me, in Jesus’ name!
