Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. – Rev. 21:27

Do you know what heaven is like? There is nothing evil and nothing dirty. Nothing wicked or sinful. Nothing that “…defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie” (v 27). Heaven is perfect! Doesn’t that sound wonderful?

God will not allow anything impure into heaven because nothing impure is allowed in His presence. That may not seem fair. Where’s the grace in that?! But would you really want to spend eternity in a Heaven where imperfect things and imperfect people were allowed? Of course not. You want heaven to be clean. You want heaven to be just! You want everything to be perfect. You want heaven to be righteous and pure because it’s the reward you’ve been waiting for!

But wait a second. There’s a problem here! You want a perfect heaven; but you are not so perfect. So according to your own requirements for heaven you are exiled from the very heaven you would desire! And that is why you need Jesus: because He takes everything that is imperfect and makes it righteous and whole. Jesus takes your impurities and washes them white as snow! He transforms you into the child of God you were created to be, to populate the heaven of your dreams.

Isn’t God’s plan so beautiful? And aren’t we so blessed to be a part of it?

Prayer:

Father, thank You for including me in Your plan! I know I don’t deserve to go to heaven. But Jesus does! And He died in my place so that, when I trust in Him, I can receive His reward. Thank You for making a way to heaven where there was no way, in Jesus’ name!
