Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And you shall take some of the blood that is on the altar, and some of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it on Aaron and on his garments, on his sons and on the garments of his sons with him; and he and his garments shall be hallowed, and his sons and his sons’ garments with him. – Ex. 29:21

You need two things to minister effectively for God: blood and oil. When Aaron and his sons were consecrated as priests, they were arrayed with special garments: a tunic, a robe, an ephod, a breastplate, a turban, and a holy crown (vv 5-6). Then, they were sprinkled with 1) blood and 2) oil.

The blood of Jesus makes you clean. It makes you whole! It covers your sin. It sanctifies you and separates you from your past, “…as far as the east is from the west” (Ps. 103:12). Jesus spilled his blood – one offering for all mankind – so that you could be made perfect in the sight of God:

“For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.” – Heb. 10:4

The oil of God – the anointing, or the manifest presence of God’s Holy Spirit on you to do something – makes you capable. God has called you to do something great! He created you to do something that nobody else in human history could ever do quite like you. But you can’t do it yourself. You need His Holy Spirit! And when you spend time in His presence, you will be filled with the strength and the power to do what He has called you to do: nothing more, and nothing less.

You are just like Aaron. You are a priest![1] You get to stand and minister before God because you are covered in the blood, and you get to change the world because you are anointed with the Holy Spirit.

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light… – 1 Peter 2:9

Prayer:

Father, thank You for covering me in the blood of Jesus! Thank You that my sins are washed away. And thank You for anointing me. I know I have a calling on my life! And I know the only way I will walk it out is by letting Your Holy Spirit do the work. Help me to lean on You like never before, in Jesus’ name!
