Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels? – Matt 26:53
Judas came to betray Jesus with, “…a great multitude with swords and clubs” (v 47). From our vantage point, we know that if Jesus had just prayed to God, God would have sent twelve legions of angels to protect Him. But Jesus didn’t even defend Himself. He just let it happen! Why did Jesus just sit there, and let the mob arrest Him?
How then could the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen thus? – Matt 26:54
Jesus’ one and only concern was God’s will. Jesus came to fulfill the Law. He came to personify every promise God had ever made to His people. So could Jesus have escaped His arrest? Of course! But would He have abandoned God’s plan for His life? Of course not!
Jesus told His disciples something we should understand: even if God can do something, it doesn’t mean He will. We should never doubt God’s can; but we should always yield to His will. God exercises His will to fulfill His word.
Before you pray, ask God: Lord, what is Your will? I know You can do anything; but what is Your will for my life?
Prayer:
Father, You are all-powerful. I know You can do anything! But sometimes You choose not to for reasons I don’t fully understand. Help me to trust in You, no matter what, in Jesus’ name!
