Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
As He passed by, He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “Follow Me.” So he arose and followed Him. – Mk 2:14
Jesus didn’t choose Levi (Matthew) because he was the smartest, the purest, or the most devoted. He chose Matthew because he was available. Jesus passed by and saw Matthew sitting in the tax office – at his job! And when He told Matthew to follow Him, Matthew actually listened.
Greatness happens when you follow Jesus. God doesn’t need you to be the best; He simply needs you to be available! Drop what you’re doing, and follow Him: with all your heart, all your mind, all your soul, and all your strength!
Prayer:
Father, I want to be available. When it’s time to follow You, help me to say yes! I want to put everything else in my life on hold, and step out and follow You, in Jesus’ name.
