CityLight Pastor Commentary:

“For everything that is hidden will eventually be brought into the open, and every secret will be brought to light.” – Mk 4:22

You can have secrets in your relationships with other people. There is no such thing, however, as a secret from God. Jesus explains to us in the verse above that everything we think, say and do will be brought to light. The law would have us look at this verse as one of condemnation: do good or else you will be found out and punished! But grace would have us understand this verse as one of complete freedom. Everything in our lives can be fully devoted to Jesus with full confidence that God will see everything we do. So when you miss the chance to ‘act right’ but love Him in your heart, God sees it. When you say the wrong thing but later realize you should have acted out of love, God sees that. God wants you to love Him with your whole heart, but doesn’t expect you to be perfect. No thought, word, or act of love – no matter how small or seemingly insignificant – will be overlooked.

Prayer:

“Father, thank You for seeing my heart! I know I’m not perfect and I never will be, but I’m asking you to conform me into the image of Jesus Christ as I behold Him every day. Thank You for forgiveness and second chances!”
