Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Then Levi gave Him a great feast in his own house. And there were a great number of tax collectors and others who sat down with them. – Lk. 5:29

Levi – whom we know as Matthew – met Jesus at his job. Jesus saw him, “sitting at the tax office” (v. 27), and told him, “Follow Me” (v. 27). “So [Matthew] left all, rose up, and followed Him” (v. 28). This is radical devotion to Jesus! Matthew had never even met the Man before! But there was something about Jesus that caused Matthew to abandon everything he had ever known for the chance to sit at Jesus’ feet.

But Matthew’s devotion was not just private. He didn’t worship Jesus in isolation. Matthew’s first order of business as a brand new baby Christian was to throw a party – a “great feast in his own house.” He immediately invited Jesus into His home; and then he invited all his tax collector friends to meet this Jesus who had just changed his life.

When people come into your home, do they meet Jesus? Do they leave with a conviction to follow Him? Are you living a life of such radical devotion that anyone who steps foot into your dwelling cannot help but wonder who this Jesus is? Evangelism doesn’t have to be hard. Open your home to Jesus; and then invite others.

Prayer:

Lord, make me a man of radical devotion. I want to host You in my home; and I want to invite others! I pray that every single person who walks in the door of my home would have a profound and powerful encounter with Jesus Christ!
