Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

“But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass through, for the Lord your God hardened his spirit and made his heart obstinate, that He might deliver him into your hand, as it is this day.” – Deut 2:30

When Moses and the Israelites came to the land of the Amorites, they encountered opposition. The heart of the king of the Amorites was “hardened;” he would not let Israel pass through his land. The Israelites could have panicked and turned back around. They could have overreacted and launched into battle! But Moses knew God had a plan.

God turns opposition into opportunity. You see, Moses had a history with God. He remembered when Pharaoh “hardened his heart” (Ex 8:32); and it meant defeat for Egypt and victory for God’s people. He knew this time would be no different!

Who has hardened his heart against you? When an enemy opposes you, it might actually be a good thing. God may be getting ready to deliver him into your hand!

Prayer:

Father, shift my perspective on opposition! I know You turn opposition into opportunity. Help me to wait faithfully, knowing You will defeat all my enemies in the name of Jesus.
