Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Then He turned to the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has washed My feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head.” – Lk 7:44

Here we have a case study of two people.

The first, a Pharisee, tried to impress Jesus with his own perceived level of holiness. He was proud of his squeaky-clean past! He was hoping to wow Jesus with his deep, theological knowledge.

The second was a sinner. She had a dark, dirty past. She didn’t have anything to say that would impress Jesus; she simply, “…stood behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with hear tears” (v 38). Then, overwhelmed with joy at the forgiveness she had received, she kissed His feet and anointed them with oil.

Do you want to impress Jesus? Be like this sinful woman. Cry your face off and wash His feet with your tears! Jesus wasn’t impressed by the Pharisee’s pride; He was impressed by this woman’s insistent worship!

We are all sinners; but there is forgiveness for all sin at the feet of Jesus.

Prayer:

Father, make me a worshipper. I want to worship and weep at the feet of Jesus, just like this sinful woman! I pray I would never be too proud to worship You with all my heart, in Jesus’ name.
