Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

And the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you little by little; you will be unable to destroy them at once, lest the beasts of the field become too numerous for you. But the Lord your God will deliver them over to you, and will inflict defeat upon them until they are destroyed. – Deut 7:22-23

Sometimes victory happens in an instant. The Cross is a perfect example. In one infinite moment, Jesus gave up His life so that we could be redeemed to God. He endured an eternity of suffering so that we could be free for all eternity!

But sometimes victory takes time. God told Moses He would drive out the nations before them – not all at one – but little by little. It wasn’t to test them. It wasn’t to annoy them. It wasn’t to remind them who was in charge! It was for their own good.

Do not be discouraged if your victory is taking longer than you expected! No matter how long it takes: your victory is guaranteed. The Lord will deliver your enemies into your hand. It might happen in an instant, or it might take some time; but God will finish what He has started in you!

Prayer:

Father, thank You that You are the God of finished works! Thank You for finishing what You started in me. Keep me humble and patient as I wait for the fulfillment of Your perfect work, in Jesus’ name!
