Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Now it happened, on a certain day, that He got into a boat with His disciples. And He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side of the lake.” And they launched out. But as they sailed He fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy. And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm. – Lk 8:22-24

The disciples were in “jeopardy” (v 23). The danger was real! Their lives were at stake! But just as real as the danger, was the presence of Jesus.

When Jesus is with you, you have nothing to fear. Jesus, “…got into a boat with His disciples” (v 22). Then, they launched out together! Aren’t you glad Jesus never sends you out alone? “Let us cross over,” He told His disciples. He would be with them, so they would have nothing to fear!

Fear comes when we forget that Jesus is with us. Storms will come, and the danger may be real; but as long as Jesus is with you, you have nothing to fear!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your presence. Help me to always remember that You are with me; and when You are with me, I have nothing to fear in Jesus’ name!
