Tithes and offerings will be taught on briefly and collected every week. Our tithing principles will stem from the following bible verses that should be talked about often with the kids:

“Start children off on the way they should go,
and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”
Proverbs 22:6

“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”
Malachi 3:10

Parents will be encouraged to get involved and help keep their kids responsible for bringing in their offering and tithes. Talk about these concepts often with your kids and explain why we do it. Children’s tithe will come from any money they earn, are gifted, or from their allowance. Younger children without “income” can be given some money by their parents. Children that forget their tithe or are new or who don’t have any money will be given a few pennies from the CityKids penny jar so that everyone gets to participate. Like in adult church, children will be encouraged to give with a happy/glad heart and have faith as they tithe. This will be one of the most fun exercises of the day! It will be parade like with fun music, flags, instruments and lots of “hallelujahs!” as we demonstrate the joy surrounding the tithe and offering. The children’s offering will be counted and added to the adults’ offering.

Children’s ministry volunteers will teach on the importance of the offering. Like any other subject, repetition is our friend! We will provide verses each week like Proverbs 11:24, Proverbs 3:28 and Luke 18:22. If you are unsure about how to teach your child on the offering, please feel free to obtain a tithing mini-book (by Pastor Mike White) at CityLight’s welcome table.
