Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And they ate of the produce of the land on the day after the Passover, unleavened bread and parched grain, on the very same day. Then the manna ceased on the day after they had eaten the produce of the land; and the children of Israel no longer had manna, but they ate the food of the land of Canaan that year. – Josh. 5:11-12
God’s people didn’t get to keep the old provision once the new provision arrived. As soon as the next level of provision showed up, the old level of provision was cut off! God’s people couldn’t continue to rely on the same manna; they had to go higher and do greater things!
Are the “same old” spiritual disciplines just not cutting it for you any more? God will not continue to feed you manna when it’s time for produce. He will not continue to feed you milk when it’s time for meat! Ask God what He wants you to consume. Maybe He wants you to pray in a new way! Maybe He wants you to read His word in a new way. But whatever He asks, go out and do it!
Prayer:
Father, show me what You want me to be taking in. I want to consume what You have for me: nothing more, and nothing less, in Jesus’ name!
