Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
The righteous should choose his friends carefully, for the way of the wicked leads them astray. – Prov 12:26
You become like the people around you! The more you spend time with people who love Jesus, the more you will find yourself adopting a contagious love for Him! The more you spend time with people who love to preach the Gospel whenever they can, the more you will find yourself sharing the Good News with everyone you meet!
Get around people who are good at things you want to be good at. Be wise when spending time with people who are good at things you want to avoid. Notice Scripture does not tell us to avoid non-believers. You need unsaved friends because it is impossible to save souls if you only hang out with Christians; and if you’re not saving souls, you’re not expanding God’s Kingdom. However, we should spend our time wisely with people who will build us up, instead of tearing us down!
Prayer:
Father, I pray that You would surround me with Spirit-filled friends who are full of integrity. Surround me with people who have a genuine love for God! Help us to learn from each other as we seek to be more like You!
